Day 42 (Six weeks)
The babies are eating well on their own now. Bloat remains a problem for the little female.
I am hoping that as time goes on she will establish the proper flora in her hind gut to effectively digest her food.
Both still are very interested in the bottle when offered, but they are consuming less of it each time. I believe they are weaning themselves off of it.
Both seem to have very promising coats. I had always dismissed the notion that clipping the babies frequently when young increased the density.
But these kids were clipped frequently due to their getting grime all over each other. They walked through the milk/pellet mixture and then all over each other. I clipped as much off of them as I could each time this happened, and then washed their little "hands" and faces with a washcloth. So they were trimmed about 3 times total. It will be interesting to see if that made any difference or not. Their mother was a fine wooler, and there are some very good woolers behind the buck too. So it could be genetic. But as babies go, these 2 have a lot of density.
These will be the last babies for the season. I am waiting until October or so to breed again. But what an experience!
